Williamson makes history for San Jose

Giants' No. 9 prospect goes 5-for-5 with two RBIs to tie team record

Finding a new spot to hit was all Mac Williamson needed to get his season going.

The Giants' No. 9 prospect tied a club record with five hits to lead Class A Advanced San Jose over Visalia, 10-9, on Thursday.

Williamson opened the game quickly, doubling home a run in the first inning. The 23-year-old outfielder sparked a rally the next frame by singling with two outs. Williamson smacked his second RBI double of the game in the third before adding a pair of singles in the sixth and eighth.

"I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately," Williamson said. "I feel good about my swing, but the results haven't been there this season. Today I managed to put a few good swings on it and the results showed."

Williamson entered the game batting just .200 in 25 at-bats against left-handed pitchers. Despite that fact, the Florida native has few qualms about hitting against southpaws.

"I know my stats don't show it, but I feel comfortable against lefties," he said. "Obviously tonight I got a couple of hits against them and that's always good going forward."

Williamson, who is recovering from a shoulder injury according to the Mercury News, is back in the California League after slugging 25 homers for the Giants a year ago. Because of the injury, the Wake Forest University product is serving as the club's designated hitter, something he could not do at Double-A Richmond, where there is no DH.

The 2012 third-round pick has been on a bit of a tear of late, collecting 16 hits over his last 10 games, scoring 12 times over that span. Williamson, who is batting .312, credits moving to the third spot in the batting order, trading places with Mitch Delfino, who went 4-for-5 with two RBIs on Thursday.

"The guys behind me are swinging a hot bat as well," Williamson said. "Mitch Delfino has been swinging really well. We flip-flopped in the order about a week ago and that helped me see a few more quality pitches. I think the guys around me have enabled me to see better pitches and not be pitched around as much."

Jesus Galindo slugged a two-run homer and scored twice while Ben Turner plated three for the Giants.

Martin Agosta (1-1) earned the win, allowing four runs on eight hits over five innings. Steven Okert closed out his fourth save, although he gave up a solo homer in the ninth.

Brandon Drury, the D-backs' No. 8 prospect, was 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs for the Rawhide.

Brandon Sinnery (2-1) was tagged with the loss, surrendering 10 runs -- nine earned -- on 12 hits over 2 2/3 innings for Visalia.
