Washington Nationals Hurler, Doug Fister, to Make Rehabilitation Start for Potomac Nationals Tomorrow

Fister Scheduled to Throw Four Innings in Sunday Start with the P-Nats at Pfitzner Stadium
April 26, 2014

Woodbridge, VA-The Potomac Nationals have announced Washington Nationals RHP Doug Fister will make a rehabilitation appearance for the P-Nats tomorrow at Pfitzner Stadium as the Carolina League Nationals battle the Lynchburg Hillcats (Atlanta Braves) at 1:05pm.

Fister is scheduled to throw four innings or 60 pitches on Sunday in his first-ever regular season game with a Washington Nationals affiliate.

Fister, 30, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on March 29th with a right lat strain after the completion of Washington's Spring Training as the Nationals' Opening Day Roster was announced.

The 6'8", 210 pound right-hander was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 7th round of the 2006 MLB Draft. Fister was traded this off-season in the month of December, 2013 from the Detroit Tigers to the Nationals in exchange for LHP Robbie Ray, LHP Ian Krol, and IF Steve Lombardozzi.

The Merced, CA native owns a career MLB record of (44-50) and a lifetime Big League earned run average of 3.53 with the Mariners (2009-2011) and the Tigers (2011-2013). Fister has struck out 571 batters and walked only 165 hitters in 818.2 innings pitched while holding his opposition to a .261 batting average.

Fister appeared in Game Two of the 2012 World Series at AT&T Park for Detroit and was effective tossing 6.0 innings against the San Francisco Giants. Fister allowed just one earned run on four base hits while walking one and fanning three and was hit with the tough luck loss.

In Spring Training for the Nationals in 2014, Fister held a 1.59 ERA in a pair of Grapefruit League starts while striking out six men and walking just one.

Fister is the first member of the Washington Nationals to make a rehabilitation appearance with the Potomac Nationals in 2014.

Last season, the P-Nats received seven Major League players on rehabilitation from the Washington Nationals including LHP Ross Detwiler, RHP Christian Garcia, LF Bryce Harper, RHP Ross Ohlendorf, C Wilson Ramos, RF Jayson Werth, and 3B Ryan Zimmerman.

The Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League play at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, Virginia, and are the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The Potomac Nationals have claimed four Carolina League Championship titles (1982, 1989, 2008, and 2010) and eight division championships. Most recently, the P-Nats earned a 2013 Carolina League Northern Division pennant. P-Nats 2014 season tickets and mini plans are on sale.
