Funky Feather Finishes First

Dow Diamond Sensation Wins "Best In-Game Promotion" in Minor League Baseball
October 6, 2009
During the 2009 season, fans of the Great Lakes Loons pumped their arms with joy every time the home team scored a run at Dow Diamond. The feverish action soon became known as the Funky Feather, and is now known as the award-winning Funky Feather.

The Loons' Funky Feather has been selected as the Best In-Game Promotion at the 2009 Minor League Baseball Promotional Seminar in New Orleans. The Funky Feather was chosen by other Minor League Baseball executives and amongst 200 other promotions.

The Funky Feather was the creation of former Loons intern Steve Addington, who alternately pumped his fists skyward when the Loons scored. The dance caught on at the ballpark and is performed to the tune of the popular techno song Sandstorm. The promotion gained popularity with supplemental video board animations and "I Did the Funky Feather at Dow Diamond" t-shirts available for purchase.

Loons Promotions Manager Linda Uliano represented the Loons in New Orleans.

"The Funky Feather began with the ingenuity of our intern class of 2009," Uliano said. "It is a great way to engage our fans that created a lot of excitement and added to the atmosphere at Loons games, and it certainly caught the eye of the judges. We even saw Minor League executives doing the Funky Feather on Bourbon Street."

The Mobile BayBears (Best Overall Promotion, Best Non-Game Day Promotion), Lake Elsinore Storm (Best Theme Night) and State College Spikes (Best Green Promotion) were also honored during the Promotional Seminar.

The Great Lakes Loons are the Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
