May 20, 2005
Major League Baseball and the Caribbean Confederation -- comprised of the professional baseball organizations in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela -- conducted two days of meetings in New York that have resulted in the signing of a new Winter League Agreement. The Agreement will continue the unique relationship between Major League Baseball and the 28 Winter League teams.

"The continued participation of Major and minor league players in the Winter Leagues is crucial to the development of our players and the globalization of our game," said Jimmie Lee Solomon, Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations for Major League Baseball.

Those attending the meeting included Solomon and Vice President of International Baseball Operations Lou Melendez from Major League Baseball and the Caribbean Confederation Commissioner, Juan Francisco Puello, who was joined by Winter League presidents and owners.
