Thomore returns from DL with walk-off hit
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (April 29, 2014) - Carl Thomore gave the Kannapolis Intimidators their first walk-off win of the season, coming through with a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh for a 1-0 (F/7) victory over the West Virginia Power in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Thomore came off the disabled list earlier in the day after missing the Intimidators last seven games.
Danny Hayes led off the bottom of the seventh with a single up the middle and moved to second base on a Jacob Morris sac-bunt. After Trey Michalczewski moved the runner to third on a groundout, Thomore came through with the game-winner.
Dylan Chavez (3-1) worked a scoreless seventh inning for the win, while West Virginia's Clario Perez (1-1) took the loss in 2/3 of an inning of work.
Both starting pitchers opened with 6.0 scoreless innings with just two base runners reaching scoring position between the two teams.
Tyler Danish worked 6.0 innings, limiting the Power to five hits while striking out four and walking none. The White Sox second round pick in the June 2013 draft, Danish took no decision in his fifth start of the season, equaling his career-long outing with six innings worked. Buddy Borden matched Danish with 6.0 scoreless innings of his own for the Power.
The Intimidators and Power play the second game of today's doubleheader later this evening as former Charlotte 49ers pitcher Tyler Barnette (0-0, 0.64) makes his first start of the season for Kannapolis against West Virginia's Felipe Gonzalez (0-2, 2.87). The Intimidators and Power continue the series on Wednesday with another doubleheader beginning at 10:05 a.m. for Education Day presented by CMC-NorthEast.
