Bees come up short as Vegas completes sweep

May 9, 2014

The Las Vegas 51s beat the Salt Lake Bees 6-3 on Friday night at Smith's Ballpark. Las Vegas pitcher Rafael Montero (4-1) pitched five and one-third innings of no hit ball to collect the victory while Salt Lake starter Justin Thomas (1-4) was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs over six innings.

Salt Lake trailed early but started to make a comeback in the sixth when Taylor Lindsey crossed the plate after Brennan Boesch singled. The comeback continued in the seventh with Matt Long scoring off of a Shawn O'Malley sacrifice flyball and Roberto Lopez crossing the plate when J.B. Shuck singled to close the gap to 4-3. Las Vegas opened the lead back up scoring two runs in the ninth to make the score 6-3.

"We didn't give up any big innings," said Manager Keith Johnson. "It is just a matter of going out there and executing. I thought we did a good job of that tonight."

The Bees will return to Smith's Ballpark on May 19th to begin an eight-game homestand. Salt Lake will take on the Albuquerque Isotopes in the first four games and face the Fresno Grizzlies in the last four games of the homestand. Tuesday May 20th the Bees will host Prevention Dimension Kids' Day which will see over 10,000 elementary school kids attend a game with a special 10:35 am start time. Tickets can be purchased at Smith's Ballpark Box Office, slbees.com, or any Smith's Tix location.
