Greenville, SC - Greenville Drive first baseman Jantzen Witte has been one of the team's top hitters since the beginning of the season, and as a reward for his recent offensive stretch, he was named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for the week of May 5-11, the league announced Monday.

The 24-year old appeared in all six of the Drive's games during the week and went 11-21 at the plate, good for a .524 batting average. He smacked five doubles and one home run while scoring eight runs, driving in seven more, drawing five walks and posting a .607 on-base percentage and a .905 slugging percentage.

Witte's big week began last Monday night in Augusta, when he went 3-4 with three RBI and four runs scored in a 13-3 victory. He continued to stay hot in Wednesday's game against Greensboro, going 3-5 with a solo homer in a 12-8 win. He collected at least one hit in all six games last week and currently takes an 11-game hitting streak into Monday's action.

For the season, the Fort Worth, Texas native boasts an extremely impressive offensive line. He currently has a .371 batting average with a .462 on-base percentage and a .603 slugging percentage, and he has scored 30 runs, picked up 40 hits, smacked 16 doubles and three homers, driven in 27 runs and walked 19 times.

Witte becomes the second Drive player to earn South Atlantic League honors in 2014, as outfielder Bo Greenwell was the South Atlantic League Player of the Week the week of April 21-27.

The Drive have two games remaining on their current homestand, with first pitch for Monday night's game at Fluor Field against the West Virginia Power scheduled for 7:05.
