Extra-inning error by Rondon allows winning run to score in 11th
May 12, 2014

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (May 12, 2014) - For the second straight night, the Hagerstown Suns nabbed a walk-off win over Kannapolis in extra innings, edging the Intimidators 2-1 in 11 innings on Monday at Municipal Stadium. In yet another pitchers duel between the two South Atlantic League Northern Division foes, the Suns took advantage of a late error to secure the win.

With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 11th, Hagerstown's Drew Ward led off with an infield single, and moved to second two batters later on John Wooten's base hit to center field. James Yezzo followed with a ground ball to shortstop which Cleuluis Rondon misplayed, allowing Ward to score the game-winning run.

Dylan Chavez (3-2) suffered the loss for Kannapolis while Andre Cooper (4-0) tossed a scoreless top of the 11th to earn the win for Hagerstown.

The loss overshadowed the strong start by Kannapolis pitcher Robinson Leyer, who worked 6.0 scoreless innings in the no decision. Leyer has not allowed an earned run in his last two outings and now has an ERA of 1.04 (3 ER/26.0 IP) in his last five starts.

Suns starter Austin Voth also worked 6.0 scoreless innings, striking out seven along the way. Reliever Robert Orlan also fanned seven during his 4.0 innings of work as Hagerstown hurlers fanned 15 Intimidators hitters on the night.

Kannapolis (19-17) broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning when Jacob Morris doubled down the right field line to score Rondon from first. Hagerstown responded in the bottom of the inning when Wilmer Difo singled home Willie Medina from second base to knot the game, 1-1.

The Intimidators wrap up their 7-game road trip on Tuesday morning against the Suns with Game 4 of this 4-game series at 10:35 a.m. The team returns home to CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Wednesday, May 14, to open a 7-game home stand against the Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles) and Hickory Crawdads (Rangers).
