Hot Rods Walk-Off in Finale with Lansing

Young's Third Hit of the Afternoon Gives BG the Walk-Off Victory

Bowling Green, Ky. - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) rallied from two deficits to walk-off with a 4-3 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) on Wednesday afternoon. Ty Young helped fuel the two tying rallies, and he knocked the walk-off single down the left-field line in the bottom of the ninth.

Lansing struck first with a run to begin the ballgame. With one out in the top of the first, Derrick Loveless singled to right field. Mitch Nay followed with a base hit of his own to move Loveless to second. On a ball in the dirt, Loveless attempted to move up to third. The throw trying to snag Loveless at third went into left field, and he came around to score.

The Hot Rods would level the game in the bottom of the fifth. Young led off with a double to left-center field, and then moved to third on a grounder. Alexander Simon knotted the game up with a base hit up the middle.

Two runs for the Lugnuts put them back in front in the sixth. L.B. Dantzler led off with a single, then he moved up to second when Dawel Lugo reached on an infield single. A sacrifice bunt moved them to second and third, and Jorge Saez double them both home to give the Lugnuts a new 3-1 lead.

Resiliency paid off and Bowling Green re-tied the game in the seventh. Young once again started the rally, this time a single through the right side. Yoel Araujo followed by blasting a home run over the right-center field wall to tie the game at three.

The two sides entered the bottom of the ninth tied, but the Hot Rods wasted no time in securing their second walk-off win of the season. Granden Goetzman led off with a double to left-center field, and moved up when Oscar Hernandez reached via a bunt. Young ended the game when he sliced a single down the left-field line to drive home Goetzman.

Ian Kendall (3-1) tossed a scoreless top of the ninth inning to earn the victory. Ryne Stanek made his second start of the season for the Hot Rods, and went five innings. He allowed just one unearned run on three hits in the no-decision.

Brady Dragmire (1-3) worked a scoreless eighth, but he conceded the run in the ninth to be handed the loss.

Bowling Green now hits the road for a seven-game road trip through the state of Michigan. It begins with a four-game series against the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers) on Thursday night. Fans can follow the action on 1340 WBGN - The Ticket. The Pepsi Pre-Game Show will get underway at 5:50 p.m. CT on Thursday night, and first pitch will be tossed at 6:05 p.m. CT.
