Waltrip & Logano Headline Auto Racing Night on May 21

(Uptown Charlotte, NC) - Baseball and auto racing come together on Wednesday, May 21 as two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip and 2009 Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year Joey Logano headline Auto Racing Night at BB&T Ballpark. Waltrip and Logano will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the 7:05 p.m. game.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday as the Knights host the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) in finale of the two-game series. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Joey Logano Foundation Racing Calendar.

Waltrip, a native of Owensboro, KY, currently drives the No. 66 Toyota Camry part-time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and the GT2 Ferrari for AF Corse in the FIA World Endurance Championship. The 51-year-old is also a pre-race analyst for NASCAR on FOX. Waltrip won the Daytona 500 in 2001 and again in 2003. Among some of his other accomplishments, he won the 1983 Darlington Dash Series Championship, the Winston (NASACR Spring All-Star Race) in 1996, and the Gatorade Duel (Budweiser Duel) in 2002 and 2005.

Logano, 23, is the youngest winner in two of NASCAR's three top divisions. The Middletown, CT native was also the first NASCAR driver born in the 1990s that has competed in NASCAR's three major divisions. His first major came in his third start in the 2008 Nationwide Series. Logano's win came during the Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway. With the win, Logano became the youngest driver to win a Nationwide Series race at 18 years, 21 days old. He currently drives the No. 22 Ford Fusion full-time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the No. 22 Ford Mustang in the Nationwide Series for Team Penske.
