Kiwanis, Thrive and Owlz Make a Good Team

Thrive donated over $6,000 to the Kiwanis Club of Orem thanks to the efforts of the 2009 Owlz pitching staff
November 10, 2009
During the Owlz 2009 season, you might have noticed something different in the outfield every time an Owlz pitcher recorded a strike out. While the hanging of "K's" along the outfield fence following a strike out is certainly common in ballparks, the Owlz were able to add a little extra meaning. This past season the Owlz partnered with the Orem Kiwanis Club and Thrive to make sure each strike out not only benefited the Owlz but the community as well.

Every time an Owlz pitcher recorded a strike out against an opposing player, Thrive donated $10 to the Orem Kiwanis Club - an organization that exists to help meet the many needs of Utah children. The Owlz recorded over 600 strike outs during the 2009 season which led to more than $6,000 donated to help fund programs for local kids.

"This was a wonderful program for us to be a part of," said Owlz General Manager Aaron Wells. "Thrive and the Orem Kiwanis Club should be greatly recognized for their efforts and contributions to the community and we are certainly glad our pitchers could help out."
