Glenn powers Bisons to 7-5 win
Brad Glenn must like being an everyday outfielder for the Bisons.
Glenn's recent hot-hitting was on display Friday night and his offensive prowess led the Bisons to a 7-5 victory over the Bats at Louisville Slugger Field. Glenn went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs to pace the Bisons seven-hit attack.
Since being promoted from Double-A last week, Glenn has a hit in each of his seven starts and is hitting .393 (11-for-28) with eight RBIs. Glenn led off the second inning with a double and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Mike Nickeas to give the Bisons an early 1-0 lead. Glenn also had an RBI fielder's choice in the Bisons' three-run fifth inning and then followed that up with a two-run single in the sixth inning.
For the second-straight night, the Bisons got an above average outing from their starting pitcher. A night after Kyle Drabek pitched eight scoreless innings in a Bisons 4-2 victory on Thursday, Shawn Hill tossed six strong innings -- allowing two runs on six hits on Friday.
After pitching three easy innings to start the game, Hill found himself in some trouble in the fourth. Louisville opened the inning with back-to-back hits by Shelley Duncan and Tucker Barnhart, to put runners on first and second with no outs. Hill worked out of the jam by striking out Ryan Lamarree and then fielding a grounder to start a 1-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Raul Valdes had a rocky season-debut for the Bisons. Valdes allowed one run in the seventh inning, but the left-hander failed to get an out in the eighth inning before getting replaced by John Stilson. Valdes was charged with three runs on four hits in an inning of work.Stilson came on to strikeout Duncan and Barnhart before serving up consecutive base hits. Bobby Korecky came on to get the final out of the eighth, and pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for the save.
Korecky picked up his team-leading fifth save of the season and continued his dominance against Triple-A hitters. Korecky has allowed just one run in 28 and ⅔ innings for the Bisons this season. Korecky has a 0.31 ERA in 20 appearances.
The win was the Bisons fifth-straight road victory. The Bisons (25-19 overall) are in first place in International League North -- a game and half ahead of the Rochester Red Wings. Chad Jenkins (1-1, 3.47 ERA) will get his second-straight start for the Bisons on Saturday against Louisville sinkerballer and former Bison, Chien-Ming Wang (3-4. 4.47 ERA).
BISONS NOTES:
Recent Blue Jays' call up Liam Hendriks made his season-debut with Toronto. The 25-year-old right-hander allowed just one run on three hits, in five and two-thirds innings of work to earn the win over the Oakland Athletics. Bisons' Munenori Kawasaki had his 10-game hitting streak snapped -- going 0-for-3 with a walk on Friday.
