Lookouts rally past Stars

May 18, 2006
Noochie Varner's RBI single in the seventh inning helped Chatanooga rally for a 5-4 victory over visiting Huntsville on Thursday.

Losers of four straight, the Lookouts (26-16) fell into an early 4-0 hole. Joey Votto hit a solo homer and Rick Asadoorian added an RBI single in the fourth inning before Javier Colina's solo blast in the sixth cut the deficit to one.

Luis Bolivar forged a 4-4 tie with an RBI double in the seventh and Varner followed with a base hit to put Chattanooga in front for good.

Chattanooga reliever Carlos Alvarado (2-0) escaped a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to pick up the win. Brock Till worked the final two frames for his first save.

Huntsville starter Carlos Villanueva (3-2) surrendered five runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking one in 6 1/3 innings.

Ozzie Chavez went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer for the Stars (20-21). --Christopher Heine/MLB.com
