May 26, 2014

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Fresno Grizzlies (27-25) needed some late runs, but they put away the Salt Lake Bees (17-35) 10-6 Monday afternoon in front of 7,478 fans at Smith's Ballpark. The win hands them a series victory and puts them two games over .500 for the first time this season.

Mark Minicozzi went 4-4 with three RBI and three runs scored to spearhead the offensive attack. His RBI double in the first began the scoring, while a three-run homer by Chris Dominguez (5) spotted the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the first.

Minicozzi collected his second run-scoring hit in the second, while Juan Ciriaco's first homer of the season gave them a 6-1 lead heading to the bottom of the second

Starter Chris Heston (ND) tried to navigate the Salt Lake lineup, but was touched up for six runs (three earned) on seven hits over 5.1 IP. Spotted with a five-run lead, Heston let it completely slip away in the sixth thanks to his own throwing error that put the tying run into scoring position. Matt Long, who had a first inning home run earlier, knocked a RBI double through the hole at second to make it a 6-6 ballgame.

All wasn't lost, as Minicozzi singled in the eighth and scored the go-ahead run on a Nick Noonan double. Fresno returned in the ninth to grab three insurance runs, the first coming from Minicozzi who singled home Darren Ford. Travis Ishikawa, who extended his hitting streak to a team-high 11 games earlier in the game, hit a two-run homer (2) to right to give Fresno back-to-back games with 10 runs.

Adam Reifer earned his third win of the season by throwing 1.2 scoreless innings in relief of Heston. Mason Tobin (1.0) followed and collected his fourth hold, while Dan Runzler (1.0) struck out the side in the ninth to seal the win.

Minicozzi finished the series against Salt Lake 8-12 with two doubles, six RBI and four runs scored.

Fresno travels to Reno tonight and will begin a four-game series tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. PST. Left-hander Jose De Paula (1-1, 3.32) gets the nod for Fresno, while righty Mike Bolsinger (4-0, 1.47) toes the rubber for the Aces. Bolsinger has not allowed a run over his last two starts (14.0 IP).
