Scheppers To Rehab With Round Rock
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers have announced that RHP Tanner Scheppers will begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Round Rock Express Tuesday night at Dell Diamond. Scheppers will start for the Express against the visiting New Orleans Zephyrs and is expected to pitch one inning.
Scheppers, the Rangers' Opening Day starter, went 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA in four starts prior to being placed on the 15-day disabled list in mid-April due to inflammation in his right elbow and forearm. He has made one rehab appearance with Double-A Frisco thus far (allowed one unearned run in one inning).
In 2013, Scheppers made a team-high 76 relief appearances for Texas, posting a 1.88 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 76.2 innings.
The 27-year old, who was selected by Texas in the first round (44th overall) of the 2009 first-year player draft out of Fresno State University, made 38 appearances (one start) for Round Rock over the 2011 and 2012 seasons. While with the Express, he recorded 13 saves and a cumulative 3.83 ERA, striking out 51 in 51.2 innings.
