PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium at 5 p.m. ET.

Catcher J.T. Realmuto has been promoted from the Suns to the major league Miami Marlins as he earns the first big-league call-up of his career. He will join the Marlins in Miami before today's final game of their series against the Atlanta Braves at Marlins Park at 1:10 p.m.

In 46 games with the Suns this season, Realmuto hit .301 with five homers and 39 RBI, along with 14 doubles and three triples. His 31 RBI and 14 doubles led the Suns, and Realmuto was second in the Southern League in slugging percentage (.503). His batting average (.301) was also best on the team, and the eighth best among qualifying batters in the Southern League.

Realmuto spent the entire 2013 season in Jacksonville, where he earned Southern League Midseason All-Star honors. Overall in 2013 he hit .239 with five homers and 39 RBI as he played in 106 games. Realmuto was selected by the Marlins in the third round of the 2010 draft out of Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Coming into this season Realmuto was listed by Baseball America as the Marlins No. 10 prospect, as well as the "best defensive catcher" in the Miami organization.

In a corresponding move, catcher Austin Barnes has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to the Jacksonville Suns. Barnes has played in 44 games with Jupiter, hitting .317 with a homer and 14 RBI. His batting average is the best on the Hammerheads, and is eighth best in the Florida State League. The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, plus infielder Miguel Tejada on his rehab assignment, and a revised roster is attached.
