Dunedin outlasted by Jupiter in 12 innings
Jupiter, FL - The Blue Jays (38-17) squandered a late lead and dropped their second-straight game to the Jupiter Hammerheads (24-32) in a 12-inning, 4-3 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium. The D-Jays now have a 2.5 game lead over the Lakeland Flying Tigers in the FSL North, and have lost nine of their last 12 games at Roger Dean Stadium.
With a 3-1 lead in the eighth inning, the Blue Jays turned to the reliable LHP Chad Girodo (BS, 2), but the Hammerheads rallied with two straight singles from Matt Juengel and Viosergy Rosa. Two batters later, Terrence Dayleg grounded a two-run double down the third-base line to even the score.
RHP Jesse Hernandez (L, 3-4) pitched admirably in 4.1 innings of relief, but with the bases loaded and one out in the 12th inning, Ryan Goetz hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to end the ballgame. LHP Frankie Reed (W, 2-2) held the Blue Jays scoreless from the ninth until the 12th.
Behind 5.2 innings of one-run, four-hit baseball with a walk and nine strikeouts from LHP Matt Boyd, the Blue Jays were in control for the majority of the ballgame. DH Marcus Knecht hit an RBI groundout in the first inning to make it 1-0, and a two-run single from C Derrick Chung made it 3-0 in the fourth. Chung now has a 14-game hitting streak, which is the longest active streak in the league and two games shy of Jorge Polanco's league-best 16 game-streak.
RHP Will Browning (H, 5) pitched a scoreless inning with two hits and two strikeouts to keep Dunedin ahead until the eighth.
LHP Daniel Norris will take the mound on Monday night at 6:35 p.m. as the Blue Jays look to get back to their winning ways.
