Michael Roth Named TL Pitcher of the Week
Little Rock - Starting pitcher Michael Roth has been named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for May 25 through June 1. He carried a shutout into the ninth inning on Thursday, May 29 and allowed just four hits in 8.2 innings in a 4-0 win at Corpus Christi.
The 24-year old Roth has actually pitched into the ninth inning in each of his last two starts and had a fantastic May where he went 4-0 in five starts with a 0.98 ERA, the lowest ERA amongst the 30 teams in the Double-A classification and the seventh-lowest in Minor League Baseball during the month. Roth allowed just five runs (four earned) in 36.2 innings with 28 hits allowed, nine walks and 18 strikeouts. All this after the former South Carolina Gamecock passed through waivers on May 1 once the Los Angeles Angels designated him for assignment on May 1.
Roth, from Greer, South Carolina, is 4-3 in nine starts with a 2.64 ERA, the fifth-lowest in the Texas League. The Angels' ninth-round choice in the 2012 draft makes his next appearance Wednesday evening at Dickey-Stephens Park against the Springfield Cardinals.
