Phillies' Luis Garcia to Rehab at Coca-Cola Park
(Allentown, Pa.) - Phillies RHP Luis Garcia - sidelined since May 22 with a right forearm strain - is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment when the IronPigs host the Louisville Bats at Coca-Cola Park on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network is the exclusive sponsor of all Major League rehabilitation appearances at Coca-Cola Park.
Garcia, 27, had made three appearances with the Phillies following his early May promotion from Lehigh Valley, allowing seven earned runs in four innings prior to suffering the forearm strain.
Garcia - signed by the Phillies as a Minor League Free Agent last year - had a remarkable 2013 in which he went from Class-A ball to the Major Leagues for the first time in his career. In the minors, he finished a combined 2-2 with 1.51 ERA and 11 saves while going 1-1 with a 3.73 ERA in 24 games with the Phillies during his rookie year.
Despite making just 19 career appearances with the IronPigs - his is among the most distinguished and accomplished relievers in franchise history. With the IronPigs, he is 2-0 with a sparkling 0.36 ERA in 19 games and 9-for-10 in save opportunities. This season in Triple-A, he failed to allow an earned run in 13.2 innings prior to receiving his call-up. Remarkably, Garcia was out of affiliated baseball in 2011 and 2012 and worked as both a mover and a hair stylist before beginning his amazing comeback story last year.
