Dodgers Select Contract Of INF Miguel Rojas

June 6, 2014

Infielder Miguel Rojas had his contract selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers this afternoon.

In 51 games at Albuquerque this season, Rojas is batting .302 with four home runs, nine doubles and 13 RBI, appearing in games at shortstop (23), third base (16) and second base (8). Rojas has been on a power surge of late, with all four of his home runs coming during his active eight-game hitting streak (.412, 14-for-34) that preceded his call-up. The Venezuela native also played in 24 games for Los Angeles as a non-roster invitee in its 2014 Spring Training slate and batted .387 with a .441 on-base percentage after he was signed by the Dodgers as a free agent on November 13, 2012. Rojas, who will be making his Major League debut, has played in nine professional seasons after originally signing with Cincinnati in 2005.

Rojas becomes the 10th Isotope to be called up to Los Angeles this season and the third to make his Major League debut.

Albuquerque plays game two and three of a five-game series against the Tacoma Rainiers with a doubleheader tonight beginning at 7:05 p.m. MT. Right-hander Carlos Frias (3-3, 6.02 ERA) will start game one for the Isotopes and the Rainier will go with righty Andrew Carraway (2-4, 4.44 ERA). In game two, right-hander Steve Smith (1-2, 7.68 ERA) will likely start for the Topes and Tacoma will send righty Chance Ruffin (2-3, 6.70 ERA) to the hill.
