RailRiders Send Miley Into Hall of Fame with Win

Almonte and Garcia Launch Home Runs
June 7, 2014

Moosic, Pa. - The night began honoring longtime skipper Dave Miley, and ended with a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) win. Much like the renewing of vowels on the field postgame, the RailRiders renewed it's relationship with the New York Yankees, extending its Player Development Contract (PDC) for the maximum four years in front of 6,859 patrons at PNC Field. The evening was a celebration of the past and future, but the RailRiders (31-30) also treated baseball purest to a 3-1 win over the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers).

Zoilo Almonte put the RailRiders on the board with a solo home run in the first, before Carmen Angelini gave starter Brian Gordon a two-run lead with a double down the left-field line in the second. Gordon spun six quality innings with the only blemish on his ledger occurring in his final frame after three-straight two-out batters reached on base hits, with the final knock plating Ezequiel Carrera in the sixth.

Leading 2-1 and the game in striking distance, Adonis Garcia gave his club some needed insurance with his second home run in as many days to make the lead 3-1, a lead that was locked down with three scoreless frames from the RailRiders' bullpen.

The two-run win marks the second-straight for Gordon (4-5) while Derek Hankins (2-7) tossed a quality outing, twirling six frames of two-run ball in the loss. The win was the second-straight for SWB and moved the team over the .500 mark at 31-30 through the club's first 61 games.

The RailRiders continue the eight-game homestand with the second game of the series against the Toledo Mud Hens Sunday, June 8 at 1:05 p.m. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will send right-hander Zach Nuding (2-6, 6.19) to the hill while Toledo counters with lefty Derek Below (3-1, 3.97) John Sadak and Aaron Berlin  have the call on MyNetwork TV while Jim Riley fills in on radio with the pregame show beginning at 12:35 p.m. on NEPA Sports Radio -The GAME, Northeast PA's largest radio network: 100.7 FM, 1340 WYCK-AM, 1400 WICK-AM, 1440 WCDL-AM and 106.7 FM.
