Legends set National Anthem tryouts for Feb. 20-21

January 12, 2010
(APPLEBEE'S PARK, Lexington, Ky.) A baseball game doesn't start without the National Anthem, and the Lexington Legends' season doesn't start without the annual National Anthem tryouts.

The Legends, in partnership with LM Communications and ABC 36, will hold tryouts at Fayette Mall February 20 and 21 in the wing of the mall near Dick's Sporting Goods. Each participant will sing or play the anthem, and those selected will perform the anthem before a Legends' home game during the 2010 season.

The tryouts will run from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 20 and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 21.

"The Legends 10th season is here, and what better way to start the celebration than by going into the community and listen to some future National Anthem performers," said Legends General Manager Andy Shea. "As always, this promises to be a very fun event."

The panel of judges for the tryouts will include representatives of the media partners. ABC 36 news anchors Megan Skaggs and Tom Kenny and meteorologist Geoff Cornish are scheduled to participate.

Registration forms, which contain rules and other details, are available at www.lexingtonlegends.com. For more information, or to reserve a time in the tryout lineup, call (859) 252-4487. Walk-ups are also welcome.

The Legends, a member of the South Atlantic League and a Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros, will celebrate their 10th season of play in 2010. They will open their home schedule Friday, April 16 at Applebee's Park against the Greenville Drive.
