M-Braves add dance team for '10 season

Diamond Dancers to entertain at home games

Pearl, Miss. -- The Mississippi Braves, in conjunction with StarFire Productions, are proud to announce the formation of a new dance and entertainment team called The Mississippi Braves Diamond Dancers.

Auditions for the Diamond Dancers will take place at the Farm Bureau Grill at Trustmark Park on Saturday, January 23rd and Sunday, January 24th. Individuals interested in trying out for the team should report to the Farm Bureau Grill at 8 am on January 23rd. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older by audition day and candidates must have a high school diploma or GED.

Candidates will be asked to demonstrate dance and speaking skills, and must demonstrate good moral character. Selection will be based on dedication, enthusiasm, attitude, personality, dancing skills, and appearance. The Diamond Dancers will perform at all Mississippi Braves home games and also assist in the fan experience promotions. In addition, the Diamond Dancers will make appearances in the Jackson Metro area and from time to time perform at other sporting events in Mississippi.

Ms. Maya Hayes, owner of StarFire Productions will be the Director of the Mississippi Braves Diamond Dancers. Hayes is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, where she attended Jackson State University, receiving her B.A. of Science in Speech and Theatre Arts. Inspired by her mother to follow her dream of becoming a dancer, Hayes founded her first dance studio, the Starlight Dancer Company in Jackson, MS. There she taught urban and inner city youth dance. She not only taught and encouraged these youth, but she promoted them around the city and state. Hayes has danced for the World Champion Chicago Bulls and was a member of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders during the 2002 - 2004 seasons. Not only has she performed over seas for our nation's troops, but she has also performed all over the world as a backup dancer for blues singer Bobby Rush, James Brown, Earth, Wind & Fire, Wayne Newton, and as a member of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Show Group. In addition, Hayes is a former Dallas Maverick Dancer.
