June 10, 2014

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Atlanta Braves announced today that right-hander Jordan Walden has been activated off the disabled list and left-hander Alex Wood has been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett. Walden, who had been out since May 10 with a strained left hamstring, completed a two-game injury rehab assignment with the Gwinnett Braves on June 8.

Additionally today, Gwinnett third baseman Edward Salcedo was placed on the disabled list retroactive to June 6 with a left thumb sprain.

Walden, 26, went 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA (2 ER in 1.2 IP) in a pair of rehab starts for the G-Braves. He took the loss on June 5 vs. Columbus despite striking out three over two thirds of an inning. A wild pitch on strike three to Adam Abraham extended the inning, and former Braves teammate Elliot Johnson followed with a two-run home run. Walden's next outing came on June 8 at Rochester and was a scoreless, hitless inning with one walk and two strikeouts.

Walden is 0-0 with a 2.92 ERA (4 ER in 12.1 IP) and one save in 14 relief appearances with Atlanta this season. He has held Major League opponents to a .178 batting average while allowing just one home run all year.

Wood, 23, went 5-6 with a 3.43 ERA (23 ER in 60.1 IP) in 18 games, seven starts with Atlanta this season. The Braves' second round pick in 2012 out of the University of Georgia, Wood is 8-9 with a 3.26 ERA over 49 career Major League games with Atlanta, including 18 starts.

Wood joins Gwinnett for the second time in his career. He made one start for the G-Braves in 2013, going 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA (1 ER in 5.0 IP). In his two-year minor league career, he is 9-5 with a 1.73 ERA in 24 games, all starts.

Salcedo, 22, hit .204 (37-for-181) with 11 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 18 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 54 games with the G-Braves prior to suffering the injury. He last played on June 5 vs. Columbus.

The Gwinnett Braves and the Rochester Red Wings conclude a four-game series on Tuesday night at Coolray Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM. Left-hander Daniel Rodriguez (4-6, 3.67) will start for the G-Braves, while the Red Wings will counter with right-hander Trevor May (5-4, 2.80).
