Marco Gonzales added to North Division All-Star Team

Springfield, MO - The Texas League announced on Wednesday that Springfield Cardinals LHP Marco Gonzales has been added to the 2014 Texas League North Division All-Star Team. Gonzales joins OF James Ramsey, 1B Jonathan Rodriguez, C Cody Stanley, RHP Joey Donofrio and LHP Kyle Hald as the Cardinals selected to the All-Star Game, scheduled for Tuesday, June 24.

Gonzales, 22, has been excellent through his first five starts with Springfield, going 1-2 with a 2.63 ERA since being promoted from High-A Palm Beach on May 16. He has limited the opposition to one earned run or fewer in four of his five starts, while tallying 32 strikeouts through 27.1 total innings. Gonzales's finest outing was on May 23 in Midland when he no-hit the RockHounds through his first 5.2 innings. He ended up with seven scoreless frames that day, striking out seven.

The Fort Collins, Colorado native entered the 2014 campaign tabbed by Baseball America as the Cardinals #5 overall prospect and #2 pitching prospect, and is ranked as having the best changeup in the St. Louis system. Gonzales, a 2014 Major League Spring Training Non-Roster Invitee, was selected by the Cardinals in the 1st round (19th overall) of the 2013 June Draft out of Gonzaga University.

The 2014 Texas League All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, June 24 at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas, the home of the Arkansas Travelers.
