Padres Trade Sogard to Oakland

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - INF Eric Sogard, who played for Fort Wayne in 2007, was traded from the San Diego Padres to the Oakland Athletics. The trade also sent INF Kevin Kouzmanoff to Oakland; the Padres acquired OFs Scott Hairston and Aaron Cunningham.

Sogard was the Padres' 2nd-round pick in the 2007 draft and spent part of his first professional season with Fort Wayne. In 22 games in the Summit City, he hit .253 with two home runs and 15 RBIs.

Sogard went on to an all-star season with Advanced-A Lake Elsinore in 2008, where he led the California League in doubles (42) and finished in the top ten in batting average (.308), RBIs (87), hits (165), on-base percentage (.394) and runs scored (97). He was again an all-star in 2009, this time in the Texas League for the Double-A San Antonio Missions. Sogard hit .293 for the Missions, the 9th-best batting average on the circuit.
