Steve Hyder receives Rhode Island Sportscaster of the Year award

January 25, 2010

The Pawtucket Red Sox are pleased to announce that PawSox radio broadcaster Steve Hyder will receive the prestigious Rhode Island Sportscaster of the Year award at the 51st Annual National Sportscasters & Sportswriters Association (NSSA) awards dinner in Salisbury, NC on May 3, 2010. Hyder is actually the co-winner of the RI Sportscaster of the Year award along with Steve McDonald who is a member of the PawSox telecast crew on Cox Sports Television and one of the public address announcers at McCoy Stadium (in addition to his full-time role as Sports Director at WHJJ, WHJY, and B101 radio). McDonald has been the pre and post-game reporter for PawSox games on Cox for the past dozen years.

Hyder, who has won the award three times in the past four years, will be among a host of national and state winners in attendance. A native of Newport, RI, he will begin his seventh season as a PawSox radio broadcaster this April teaming with partner Dan Hoard to bring fans all 144 PawSox games this season on the PawSox Radio Network led by flagship station 920 WHJJ.

The PawSox also congratulate Joe McDonald, Red Sox and PawSox beat writer for the Providence Journal, who earned the Rhode Island Sportswriter of the Year award (his second such honor) from NSSA.
