Thunder Rally to Snap Losing Streak, 8-5

June 20, 2014

The Trenton Thunder snap their six-game losing streak in come-from-behind fashion with an 8-5 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Friday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Zach Wilson began the bottom of the 8th inning of a tied game with a double. It was Wilson's first game back with the Thunder since he was transferred to High-A Tampa less than two weeks into the season. Wilson represented the go-ahead run at third base when Ali Castillo ripped a groundball under the mitt of the shortstop Kevin Nolan who was playing in on the grass with no outs. Castillo was not credited with a hit, but he was credited with an RBI on the play and finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI.

With Dan Fiorito and Castillo pushed to second and third base with one out on a sacrifice bunt by Mason Williams, Ben Gamel tripled them both home for a comfortable 8-5 lead entering the bottom of the ninth inning.

James Pazos entered out of the bullpen for the Thunder and tossed a scoreless frame without allowing the potential tying run to come to the plate for his second save since joining the Thunder this month.

The Thunder trailed 5-1 entering the bottom of the 3rd inning, but chipped away at the Fisher Cats lead with single runs in the 3rd, 4th and 6th innings.

Entering the bottom of the 7th, Trenton's offense had rallied to within 5-4, but still hadn't drawn even with New Hampshire since the second inning. With one out and the bases empty, Gary Sanchez strode to the plate and launched a game-tying solo home run high above the four layers of billboards in left field to leave no doubt that the game was being tied.

The Thunder and New Hampshire Fisher Cats return to action Saturday in the middle game of their three-game series. Trenton sends RHP Bryan Mitchell (1-5, 5.44) to the mound against RHP Radhames Liz (0-1, 0.68) for a scheduled 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
