Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium to Host Canisius and Long Island University
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Baseball is back in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Fans of America's Pastime won't have to wait for the Kannapolis Intimidators Opening Day on April 8th to see baseball as Canisius College will take on Long Island University in a weekend series at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The two teams will square off for four games in three days beginning on Friday, February 26th and ending on Sunday, February 28th.
The four-game series will start at 2 pm on Friday, February 26th, will continue on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon and it will end on Sunday with another noon start time. The gates will open one hour prior to the start of each contest and tickets will be available at the gate for general admission seating. Tickets to each of the games are $6 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
Canisius will have four games under their belts as they enter the weekend series. Located in Buffalo, NY, the Golden Griffins compete at the NCAA Division-I level as a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Canisius is coming off one of their most successful seasons in program history. In 2009, the Golden Griffins went 36-22 overall and made it to the championship round of the MAAC Post-season Tournament for the first time in program history. This season, expectations are high as Canisius has been picked to finish third in the MAAC and had two members of their team named to the preseason All-MAAC team.
Long Island University will open their 2010 season at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium against Canisius. Located in Brookville, NY, which is just east of New York City, the Blackbirds compete at the NCAA Division-I level as a member of the Northeast Athletic Conference. Long Island will be looking to get their season off to a good start in hopes of improving upon their 10-40 record in 2009. James Jones, a standout from the 2009 team, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the fourth round last year and hit .311 in his first season in the minors.
Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium is located just off exit 63 of I-85. For events prior to Opening Day on April 8th, we recommend entering the stadium parking lot at the entrance on Moose Rd. The main entrance off of Lane St. will re-open for the start of the Intimidators season.
The Intimidators open the 2010 season on Thursday, April 8th against the Rome Braves (Atlanta Braves) at 7:05 PM at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. For more information call the Intimidators front office at 704.932.FANS (3267) or visit IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
