Proscia's Slam Leads Quakes to Fifth Straight

Quakes improve to 4-0 in second half
June 22, 2014

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Rancho Cucamonga tied a season-high with their fifth straight win on Sunday afternoon, clobbering the Inland Empire 66ers by a final of 8-1 at LoanMart Field.

Steven Proscia's grand slam highlighted a five-run fourth, as the Quakes swept the four-game series and remain the only South Division undefeated team at 4-0 in the second half.

Lindsey Caughel (3-3), making his first appearance since coming off a stint on the disabled list that lasted more than a month, allowed just one run on five hits over six innings to earn the win.

Quakes' starter Julio Urias tossed three scoreless frames in a scheduled three-inning start. Urias struggled with his command a bit, walking three, while giving up two hits over three frames.

Inland Empire starter Mark Sappington matched Urias over the first three innings, but ran into trouble in the fourth. After a one-out walk to Corey Seager, Tyler Ogle doubled to drive in Seager, making it 1-0. Sappington would then go on to walk both Aaron Miller and Chris Jacobs before striking out Jonathan Garcia for the second out of the inning. Proscia followed with two down and blasted the first pitch he saw from Sappington (1-5) over the left-field wall, his ninth homer of the year for a 5-0 advantage.

The Quakes added three in the fifth, as Ogle doubled home another run, while Miller and Jacobs contributed, each with a sac fly, making it 8-0.

Inland Empire got their only run of the game off Caughel in the sixth, as Cal Towey's two-out single up the middle scored Chad Hinshaw, capping the scoring at 8-1.

The five-game winning streak for Rancho (4-0, 36-38) is their third such streak this year. They'll look for a season-best sixth straight win on Monday night, as they travel to Adelanto to face the High Desert Mavericks at 7:05 p.m. in the opening game of the three-game set. Fabio Martinez (4-3) will throw for the Quakes on Monday night, while High Desert will go with Min-Sih Chen (2-4).

The Quakes will be on the road for seven straight before returning home to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, July 1st for a Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, where fans can bring ten CRV-eligible bottles and cans in exchange for a free Club Seat Ticket. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field. Go Quakes!
