Chiefs' Brandon Laird named I.L. Batter of the Week

Third baseman slugged home runs in four straight games
June 23, 2014
The International League announced today that Syracuse third baseman Brandon Laird has been named the League's Batter of the Week for the period from June 16‐22. Laird is the second member of the Chiefs to claim an IL weekly award this season, joining pitcher Taylor Hill (May 19‐25).

Syracuse third baseman Brandon Laird hit .423 over the past week and led the International League with four home runs, five extra‐base hits, eight RBI, and eight runs scored while helping the Chiefs surge to six straight wins and the best record in Triple‐A Baseball. Laird entered the week having hit just two homers all season, but starting Tuesday he ripped a long ball in four consecutive games - one shy of a Chiefs franchise record. Laird now owns a 9‐game hitting streak overall and his .313 average on the season ranks 8th in the IL.

26‐year‐old Brandon Laird is in his seventh season as a professional player. He is a veteran of 53 games at the big league level, coming with the Yankees (2011) and Astros (2012‐13). Brandon is the brother of Atlanta Braves catcher Gerald Laird. He is a native of Cypress, California.
