Ruiz, Meredith homer in loss to Ports

Home runs bring JetHawks back but club falls in extras

LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks dropped their third straight in an 8-7, 10-inning loss to the Stockton Ports on Monday night at The Hangar.

Lancaster (46-29) fell behind early and climbed back into the game with home runs from Rio Ruiz and Brandon Meredith.

Meredith's solo shot in the eighth tied the game at seven. It was his sixth home run of the season and his first since returning from a long stint on the disabled list.

Stockton (42-33) jumped on starter Gonzalo Sanudo for two runs in the first inning and two more in the third. Renato Nunez led the way offensively, finishing 4-for-5 with three doubles, a home run and four RBIs.

The JetHawks trailed 4-0 before Rio Ruiz blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth off Stockton starter Jake Sanchez. It was Ruiz's seventh home run of the season.

Kyle Westwood entered to pitch in the fifth inning and tossed two scoreless frames before allowing three runs in the seventh. Ryon Healy whacked a two-run single before Nunez hit his 12th homer of the year.

Lancaster responded with a three-run rally to match the Ports in the bottom of the seventh. Danry Vasquez led off with a double, Jack Mayfield was hit by a pitch and Tanner Mathis singled to load the bases. Tony Kemp followed with a sacrifice fly and Teoscar Hernandez and Conrad Gregor each drove in runs with singles against reliever Michael Ynoa.

Jeremy Barfield (4-1) entered in the eighth inning and gave up the homer to Meredith to tie the game. Lancaster was unable to add another run and both team's were held scoreless in the ninth inning.

Bobby Crocker tripled to start the 10th against Jamaine Cotton (0-1) and scored on a Boog Powell base-hit up the middle.

Kris Hall retired the JetHawks in order to pick up the save.

The club's continue the three-game series on Tuesday night at The Hangar. Matt Heidenreich will pitch for the JetHawks against Tim Atherton. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
