Hunter Harvey Named to Futures Game
Salisbury, MD - Major League Baseball has announced the rosters for the 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Current Shorebird starter Hunter Harvey will represent the United States team against the World squad in the showcase during the MLB All-Star Weekend. The contest will be held on Sunday, July 13th at Target Field in Minneapolis.
With Delmarva, Hunter Harvey has compiled a 4-4 record with a 2.98 ERA in 13 starts this season. Harvey has struck out 76 batters in 66 1/3 innings pitched, third in the league in strikeouts. The Shorebirds' ace collected the first win of his professional career with six scoreless innings at Asheville on April 4th. On May 12th, Harvey twirled a gem against Lakewood, spinning seven shutout frames with one hit allowed and ten strikeouts. In that victory over the BlueClaws, Harvey retired the final 16 batters he faced.
The South Atlantic League selected Harvey to its annual All-Star Game. The right-hander was named the starting pitcher for the Northern Division squad. The Baltimore Orioles drafted Harvey in the 1st round (22nd overall) in the 2013 MLB Draft out of high school in Catawba, North Carolina. His father, Bryan, was a two-time All-Star closer with the California Angels and Florida Marlins. Harvey, who is just 19 years old, currently ranks as the 3rd best prospect in the Orioles' organization, according to MLB.com.
Dariel Alvarez, an outfielder with the Bowie Baysox, will join Harvey as the Baltimore representatives at the showcase. Current Orioles who formerly played in the Futures Game include All-Stars Manny Machado and Chris Tillman, along with former Shorebirds Jonathan Schoop and Dylan Bundy.
