Former Yankees and Current Twins Infielder Eduardo Nunez Joins Rock Cats
After 4 seasons in New York Joins Rock Cats on MLB Rehab Assignment
New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, has announced the former Yankees and current Twins infielder Eduardo Nunez has joined the club on a Major League rehabilitation assignment. Nunez started at shortstop and batted third in the lineup for the Rock Cats last night in New Hampshire. It is not known how much time he will need at New Britain while recovers from his injury.
The 27 year old infielder was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 15 with a right hamstring strain. Nunez was injured while beating out an infield single on June 14 at Detroit. Nunez came up in the minors with the Yankees organization and broke into the Major Leagues in New York in 2010. He batted .267 with 10 home runs and 76 RBI in 4 seasons with the Yankees from 2010-2013. He was acquired by the Twins on April 7, 2014 in exchange for minor league pitcher Miguel Sulbaran.
Nunez was a star in the Eastern League in 2009 and batted .322 with 9 home runs and 55 RBI in 123 games with the Trenton Thunder before reaching the Major League's the following season.
Nunez is the third Minnesota Twins player to join the Rock Cats on a rehab assignment this month, joining OF Sam Fuld (June 6-12) and Aaron Hicks (June 18-25). Hicks, the Twins Opening Day center fielder during the past two seasons, is still with the club as he was optioned to New Britain on Wednesday.
