Asheville Tourists Children's Fund
ABOUT US
FOCUS: Whether a child is spending time in a classroom, on the ball field, or on the playground, having proper footwear is essential for physical and emotional development. For this reason, the primary goal of the Asheville Tourists Children's Fund is for each child in Asheville/Buncombe County and the surrounding areas to have good, solid shoes on their feet. Through "If The Shoe Fits", not only are the basic needs of children met, but their self-esteem is aided, which in turn helps them to focus on their education.
IMPACT AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Hundreds of families have been assisted by the Asheville Tourists Children's Fund each year through partnerships with Payless Shoes Source, Eblen Charities, and the local school systems. All (100 percent) of funds raised go directly to benefit the children of Western North Carolina. In 2012 alone, the Asheville Tourists Children's fund provided 1,375 pairs of shoes for needy children in Western North Carolina. Over the course of the program, over 18,000 pairs of shoes have been distributed.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS: When a child in need is identified by a counselor, teacher, or administrator in the local school system, the school official contacts Eblen Charities, administrator of the "If The Shoe Fits" program for the Asheville Tourists Children's Fund. After obtaining some basic information, authorization is given and the child is set to head to Payless Shoes Source to pick out their shoes.
HISTORY: The Asheville Tourists Children's Fund was established in November 1999 with the mission of brightening the lives of children by meeting their specific individual needs. The Asheville Tourists Children's Fund is overseen by its Board of Directors.
