Anderson leads Dash to sweep in Frederick
FREDERICK, Md. (June 27, 2014) - Former first-round pick Tim Anderson fell a triple short of a cycle, and his two-run homer in the seventh inning gave the Dash the lead for good in a 5-2, sweep-clinching win over the Frederick Keys on Friday night at Harry Grove Stadium.
Frederick (1-8, 33-43) knotted the contest at 2-2 with a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning, but Anderson came through in the next inning. With two down and Keenyn Walker at first, Anderson crushed a majestic homer down the left field line, his sixth long ball of the season.
Anderson played a part in each of the Dash's first two runs. He led off the contest with an infield single and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Jason Coats, who became the fourth Carolina League hitter to reach 50 RBIs. One inning later, Anderson's double plated Omar Narvaez to give the Dash a 2-0 lead.
In the ninth, Anderson did have a chance at a cycle, which would have been the first for Winston-Salem since Brandon Allen accomplished the feat on May 14, 2008, against Lynchburg. However, Anderson was retired on a fly ball to right.
Winston-Salem (6-3, 36-42) needed its bullpen to step up with Tyler Danish missing his turn in the rotation. The trio of Jefferson Olacio, Brad Goldberg and Zach Isler did just that. Olacio, making his third spot start of the season, logged a season-high four innings, and he did not allow a run on four hits.
Goldberg (3-4) did surrender the Keys' only two runs, but both were unearned thanks to two errors in the frame. Otherwise, Goldberg threw well over three innings. Isler wrapped up the contest from there by holding Frederick to one hit over two frames for his first save of 2014.
Multiple Dash hitters wrapped up strong series on Friday. Anderson collected six hits in the set, while Jacob May added another hit to finish with six knocks as well. Zach Voight banged out three hits and four RBIs, including an eighth-inning RBI single on Friday.
The Dash will wrap up the month of June with a three-game series against the Carolina Mudcats at BB&T Ballpark. The opener of this series is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. Winston-Salem sends J.B. Wendelken (5-6, 3.92 ERA) to the bump to oppose fellow right-hander D.J. Brown (2-5, 3.99 ERA). Fans can catch all of the action live on WMYV-TV (My 48) in Winston-Salem, with coverage beginning at 7 p.m.
