ROYALS RECALL FORMER NATURAL CHRISTIAN COLON
The Kansas City Royals announced today that they recalled infielder Christian Colon from Triple-A Omaha. Colon's first game will mark his Major League debut after spending parts of five seasons across the Royals minor leagues.
Colon, 25, earns the promotion after the start of what has been arguably his best professional season to date. Colon's slashed .296/.360/.384 in 294 at-bats for the StormChasers thus far this season while scoring 48 runs to go along with 4 home runs and 14 stolen bases. He is ranked 15 in the Royals farm system according to MLB.com.
Drafted in the first round of the 2010 draft out of California State University-Fullerton, Colon began his professional career with High-A Wilmington where he hit .278 in 2010. By 2011 Colon made his Northwest Arkansas Naturals debut after ranking as a top 100 prospect according to Baseball America and BaseballProspectus.com in 2011. Prior to a late season promotion to Triple-A Omaha in 2012, Colon accumulated 13 home runs, 25 stolen bases across two seasons with the Naturals.
Along with calling up Colon, the Royals signed veteran Raul Ibanez. In corresponding moves, the Royals designated Pedro Ciriaco and Justin Maxwell for assignment. .
