Redbirds Hold Off Rainiers, 3-1
Memphis, Tenn. -
Brian Daubach pulled a pitch just inside the right field foul pole for his fourth home run of the year and a 1-0 Redbirds lead in the bottom of the first inning. Travis Hanson made it 2-0 with his first home run as a Redbird, a solo shot in the fifth inning. Desi Relaford produced an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice fly that scored Shaun Boyd. Skip Schumaker chipped in two hits and had his third straight multi-hit game to extend his hit streak to 13 games. The Rainiers managed just four hits and have scored just two runs in their last two games.
Alan Benes (2-1) earned the win for Memphis with five shutout innings. The right-hander fanned two and walked one to earn his second victory of the year. However, Falkenborg picked up his fifth save of the season. Tacoma starter Cha Seung Baek (3-3) took the loss after allowing just two runs on five hits over seven innings.
Memphis will send right-hander John Webb (2-4) to the mound tomorrow night to face Tacoma's Clint Nageotte (5-2). Game time is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
