Hernandez Knocks in Four and Hot Rods Win 8-5
(Eastlake, OH)- Oscar Hernandez doubled home two runs to cap a three run fifth inning and the Hot Rods went on to beat the Captains 8-5. Hernandez had a total of three RBI on the game. Spencer Edwards began the fifth with a triple to right field and scored on a single from Kean Wong. With the defeat, the Captains dropped their first series on the second half.
Bowling Green scored a run in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. Spencer Edwards singled and moved to second base on a base hit from Kean Wong. Johnny Field grounded into a fielder's choice to move the runner to third. Oscar Hernandez lifted a sac fly to center field and it was 1-0. BG got another run on a homerun from Johnny Field in the third inning and it was 2-0 Hot Rods.
Lake County broke up the shutout in the bottom of the sixth inning. Claudio Bautista smacked his eighth homerun of the season, a solo shot, and the score was 5-1 Hot Rods. Bautista now has 36 RBI.
Bowling Green scored two runs in the seventh inning. Oscar Hernandez doubled and scored on a single from Ty Young and the score was 6-1. Young later scored in the inning on a passed ball and the score was 7-1.
Lake County scored in the eighth inning to close the gap. With the bases loaded and two out, Paul Hendrix lined a triple to center field to clear the bases. The score was 7-4. Bowling Green added a run in the ninth on an RBI double by Hernandez and the score was 8-4. It was the fourth RBI of the game for Hernandez. Claudio Bautista doubled home a run in the ninth for Lake County and the score was 8-5. That was the final.
RHP Jordan Milbrath (2-8) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Milbrath pitched five and two thirds innings and allowed 11 hits, and five earned runs. Milbrath walked one and struck out two. He allowed the homer to Johnny Field. Anderson Polanco entered in relief and pitched two and one third innings and allowed two runs on two hits. Only one run, of the two he allowed, was earned. Polanco walked one, and struck out three. Carlos Melo pitched the ninth and allowed one earned run, two hits, and two walks.
LHP Bruedlin Suero (1-1) started for the Hot Rods and earned the win. Suero pitched seven and two thirds innings and allowed 12 hits, four earned runs no walks and eight strikeouts. Luis Cabrera entered the eighth inning and earned the save, his first of the season.
The Captains will commence a three game road series on Friday Night in South Bend, Indiana. The Captains will send RHP Caleb Hamrick (2-3 6.29) to the mound to start the ballgame. The Hot Rods will counter with RHP Blayne Weller (3-4, 4.66). First Pitch is at 7:35 PM from Four Winds Field.
