Hoying To Represent PCL In Triple-A All-Star Game
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Pacific Coast League announced Tuesday that CF Jared Hoying of the Round Rock Express has been selected to play in the 2014 Triple-A All-Star Game to be held Wednesday, July 16 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina.
Hoying, who has played in a team-high 78 games for Round Rock this season, will be making his first appearance in a mid-season all-star game at any level during his five-year career. He is coming off an outstanding June, in which he hit .347 (33-for-95) to raise his season average forty points to .260 (74-for-285). Hoying currently leads active Express players in triples (4) home runs (15, career high), RBI (48) and total bases (144). He also ranks in the top five on the team in hits (74, 2nd), runs (47, 2nd), doubles (17, 2nd) and stolen bases (10, 4th).
The center fielder earned PCL Player of the Week honors for the week ending June 15 after leading the Express to a season-high six-game winning streak. For the week, Hoying batted .464 (13-for-28) with two triples, two homers, 10 RBI, 10 runs and three stolen bases.
Hailing from Fort Loramie, Ohio, Hoying was selected by the Rangers in the 10th round of the 2010 first-year player out of the University of Toledo. He joined the Express in 2013 after beginning the season with Double-A Frisco.
Also heading to Durham for the Triple-A Mid-Summer Classic is Round Rock athletic trainer Jason Roberts, who was selected to serve in the same capacity for the PCL squad. This is the first all-star selection for Roberts, who has been with the Express since the team became a Texas Rangers affiliate in 2011. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as trainer for the Oklahoma City RedHawks, the Rangers' previous Triple-A affiliate.
The Express kicks off Red, White and Blue Weekend on Friday, July 4 against the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers affiliate). There will be a postgame fireworks extravaganza on both Friday and Saturday nights. Listen to the game live on 104.9 FM The Horn or online at hornfm.com.
