Big 5 Run Eighth for Royals Earns Them a Victory

Braves Fall on The Fourth

Burlington Celebrates Independence Day With 7-2 Win

DANVILLE, VA - For the first time all season opponents' pitching kept the D-Braves from, at the very least, simply outscoring whoever is on the field with them. The Braves were held to under four runs for the first time this entire season, and in the process Burlington snapped Danville's league best seven game win streak.

The D-Braves managed to put up only two runs, both of which came on a home run by rookie third baseman Jordan Edgerton, his third of the season. Edgerton's two RBI add to his league leading total that now stands at 21, Edgerton also leads the D-Braves in home runs with three; the only Brave with multiple home runs.

However those were the lone two runs on the night for Danville, and Burlington had a small comeback up their sleeve. Danville led 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth; however Manny Olloque set the tone to start the bottom frame with a triple. Logan Moon would single him in two batters later, after a D.J. Burt walk to start the comeback. Chase Vallot would walk in D.J. Burt to tie the game at two.

In the bottom of the eighth it was a rough go about for Colby Holmes in his first appearance in Danville this season. Burlington managed five runs in the frame, a big inning that's been tough to come by against Danville. Brandon Dulin led off the inning with a ground ball single up the middle, and then Josh Banuelos put him on third with a double to center. The next batter, Meibrys Viloria walked to load the bases with no outs, and there would be no looking back for the Royals. Christian Cano would single in a run to make it 3-2, and four more would be poured on in the half inning by the rest of the Burlington lineup.

Danville's offensive struggles on the night are the only blemish on what has been the best offense in the league so far. The D-Braves managed only five hits Friday night, their lowest single game total on the season. With two runs on the night, that also is their lowest offensive output on the season as well.

Danville (11-4) will finish out the series against the Burlington Royals (7-8) Saturday evening after their first loss in nine days to Burlington 7-2 on Independence Day. Appy League strikeout leader and Danville starter Alec Grosser (1-0, 3 starts, 2.63 ERA) will get the start at Burlington Athletic Stadium against Julio Pinto (2-0, 1 start, 1.00 ERA) for the Royals. The contest will be the final in the four game series between the two clubs, and is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
