Nimmo Helps B-Mets Find Doubleheader Split

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets and Erie SeaWolves traded shutout wins en route to a doubleheader split on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. Erie rode a near-no-hitter by Tommy Collier to a 2-0 win in the opener. In the nightcap, Nimmo scored two runs and reached base in all four plate appearances to boost the B-Mets to a 4-0 win.

GAME ONE - SeaWolves 2, B-Mets 0

The B-Met bats were stifled by the pitching of Collier. He finished one out shy of a no-hitter. Darrell Ceciliani blooped a single to right field with two-outs in the seventh for the only Binghamton hit. Collier tossed a complete-game, seven innings, walked four and struck out four more.

Both Erie runs scored in the fifth. Aaron Westlake led off the frame with a single to center field. Dixon Machado then reached on a fielder's choice by starter Steven Matz to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Both runners moved up a bag on a Craig Albernaz sacrifice bunt. Following a strikeout, Corey Jones reached on a throwing error by Rylan Sandoval at second base. Two runs scored on the play put the SeaWolves on top, 2-0.

Matz (1-1) took the hard luck loss. He tossed a complete-game seven innings and allowed just two unearned runs. The south paw didn't walk a batter and struck out seven. Collier (3-7) picked up his first win in three chances against Binghamton this season.

GAME TWO - B-Mets 4, SeaWolves 0

In the night cap, the B-Mets wasted no time getting on the board against Guido Knudson. Nimmo led off the game with a walk and stole second. Brian Burgamy laced a one-out single up the middle, Nimmo crossed the plate and Binghamton took a 1-0 lead.

Nimmo once again started a rally in the third with a lead-off walk. Dilson Herrera singled to left-center field to put two on with one out. Two batters later, Dustin Lawley singled home Nimmo and moved Herrera to third base. The next batter, Darrell Ceciliani also singled home Herrera to make the score 3-0, B-Mets.

Binghamton added an insurance run in the sixth against reliever Bryan Augenstein. The team loaded the bases against the reliever. Augenstein was then pulled in favor of Kenny Faulk. He walked Burgamy to plate a run extend the B-Met advantage to 4-0. 

Hansel Robles (6-6) threw five scoreless innings and struck out six, while Knudson (0-3) let three score on six hits. Chase Huchingson and Cody Satterwhite threw two scoreless innings of relief to nail down the victory.

The B-Mets (51-36) wrap up their series with the Erie SeaWolves on Sunday at 6:35 PM. RHP Rainy Lara takes the bump for Binghamton opposite LHP Kyle Ryan. POSTGAME NOTES: Binghamton stands at 6-5 in shutout games…The team hadn't been no-hit since 5/9/13 against Harrisburg…Nimmo had three walks between the two games bring his season total to 12…Robles hasn't allowed a run to Erie in 12 innings this season.
