Miguel Castro named NWL Pitcher of the Week
(Everett, WA) - Canadians RHP Miguel Castro has been named Northwest League Pitcher of the Week (June 30 - July 6) after back-to-back victories with an ERA of 0.90 and 13 strikeouts to help Vancouver keep pace in the competitive North Division.
Castro, 19, struck out seven on June 30th over his five innings of work against Salem-Keizer as the Canadians throttled the Volcanoes 10-2 out at Scotiabank Field. Five days later (July 5), Castro limited the high-powered offense of the Spokane Indians to just two hits over five innings to help the Canadians to a 5-1 victory over the North Division leaders.
Castro becomes the second player on the 2014 Canadians roster to receive a weekly award from the Northwest League following 1B Ryan McBroom who powered his way to the (June 23-29) Player of the Week award.
