Chukars Ryan O'Hearn Named Player of the Week
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- The Pioneer League has announced that Chukars first baseman Ryan O'Hearn has been named Player of the Week for the week ending July 6th. Ryan becomes the first Idaho Falls member in 2014 to receive a weekly award.
Ryan O'Hearn thrived in the Pioneer League's third week of the season, playing in six of the seven games against the Ogden Raptors. The Sam Houston State product hit safely in every game, going 14 for 25 with two home runs, four doubles, nine runs, and six runs batted in. The slash line (AVG/OBP/SLUG) for O'Hearn during the week was .560/.607/.960, with all three leading the Pioneer League. At one point, O'Hearn reached base safely in eight straight at-bats.
O'Hearn currently leads the Pioneer League in batting average, and slugging percentage. The Royals most recent eighth round draft choice is also second in the league in on-base percentage, while tied for third in the league in doubles. During his current ten game hit streak, the Frisco, Texas native is batting 19 for 39 for a .487 average.
The Chukars (10-11) as a team took four of seven games from the Ogden Raptors during the week. The Greybirds head on a seven game road trip against the Pioneer League North. The first four games are at Billings, before heading to Great Falls for the final three games. Idaho Falls returns home July 16th to host the Billings Mustangs.
Also, 2013 Chukars pitcher Glenn Sparkman was named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week after pitching seven scoreless innings while taking a no-hitter into the seventh frame for the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
