Paralympics Gold Medalist Jessica Long Visiting Bowie

Baysox Hosting Women in Sports Night Saturday

BOWIE, Md. - Baltimore-based Paralympic swimmer Jessica Long will make an appearance at the Baysox game Saturday, July 12 at 6:35 during Women in Sports Night. Long, who is a 17-time Paralympic medalist, was the subject of a two-part feature aired by NBC during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Originally born in Russia, Long was adopted by American parents as a baby and learned to walk with prosthesis after having both lower legs amputated at 18-months-old. The 22-year-old now trains at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club under Bob Bowman, who also serves as swimming coach of Michael Phelps. Long will join the women of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and many other local women sports teams and organizations for a pregame ceremony that night beginning at approximately 5:45 p.m. During the game, Long and athletes from the women's sports organizations will sign autographs on the stadium concourse. The former ladies of the AAGPBL scheduled to appear Saturday night include: Sarah "Salty" Ferguson, JoAnne McComb, Ruth "Rocky" Hartmann, Noella "Pinky" Alverson and Virginia Manina. Women's sports organization scheduled to attend the event include: Eastern Women's Baseball Conference, DC Divas, Baltimore Nighthawks, Chesapeake Lightning, Washington Spirit, Washington Prodigy.
