Terry Collins, Orel Hershiser, Von Joshua To Be Inducted Into Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame

Terry Collins, Orel Hershiser and Von Joshua have been elected into the Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame.

Collins played in Albuquerque from 1977-78, 1980 and 1984 and managed the Dukes from 1983-88. His 780 games managed ranks second-most in the history of the Triple-A Albuquerque Dukes, earning a 388-392 cumulative record from 1983 through 1988. Collins led the Dukes to three post-season appearances (1983, 1987, 1988) in his five-year tenure at the helm of the Dodgers' Triple-A club. His 1987 club won the Pacific Coast League Championship with a 77-65 record, and in his final two seasons at the helm of the Dukes, he won a combined 163 games. Collins is currently the manager of the New York Mets since 2011, having previously managed the Houston Astros (1994-96) and the Anaheim Angels (1997-99).

Hershiser called the Duke City home from 1982-83 when he recorded a 19-14 record over two seasons with the Dukes. He posted a cumulative 3.91 ERA and 20 saves in 96 games pitched over the two seasons. Hershiser struck out 188 batters in 258.0 innings pitched for the Dukes and helped lead Albuquerque to consecutive playoff appearances and the Pacific Coast League Championship in 1982. Hershiser went on to win the 1988 Cy Young Award and was a three-time National League All-Star. He currently serves as an analyst on SportNet LA and calls select Dodger games.

Joshua first appeared in Albuquerque during the 1968 season while a member of the Double-A Albuquerque Dodgers. He returned in 1972 as a member of the Triple-A Dukes, widely regarded as one of the best teams in Minor League history. Joshua was the Pacific Coast League batting champion in 1972 after compiling a .337 average in 125 games with nine home runs and 76 RBI. He batted .298 in 74 games with the Double-A Albuquerque Dodgers in 1968 and later served as hitting coach for the Dukes for a five-year period from 1988-1992, helping guide the team to PCL Championship in 1990. Joshua currently coaches in Taiwan.

The Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame induction will take place after the Dukes Retro Night on Saturday, July 19 when the Isotopes take on the Sacramento River Cats at 7:05 p.m. Due to the current baseball obligations of each of this year's inductees, none of them are able to return to town for the occasion. They have each recorded an acceptance speech that will be played on the Isotopes Park videoboard that evening.
