Comcast Local to televise six Indians games

The sports network serves over 300,000 Comcast customers in Indiana
May 26, 2006
INDIANAPOLIS -- Comcast Local will air six Indianapolis Indians games in 2006, Tribe General Manager Cal Burleson announced Friday afternoon. The first telecast will be June 3 when Indianapolis hosts Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a 7 p.m. contest at Victory Field.

"The Indianapolis Indians are pleased to announce this schedule of television broadcasts on Comcast Local," Burleson says. "These telecasts will enable us to project Indians Baseball at Victory Field to an extended geographic area. We think the viewers will appreciate the opportunity to learn more about our first-place Indians. We also think they will be encouraged to see us in action at Victory Field, as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Best Minor League Ballpark in America."

Ben Holden, the "Voice of Comcast Local," will handle the play-by-play duties. Holden has covered the MAC Football, CCHA Hockey, college baseball and college softball since 2004.

Geoff Zahn will serve as the analyst. Zahn pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins and California Angeles during a 13-year Major League career (1973-85). He later spent six seasons as head coach at the University of Michigan, earning Big Ten Coach of the Year honors in 1997.

"The Indianapolis Indians and Comcast Local are a perfect match," Comcast Regional Senior Vice President Rusty Robertson adds. "We want to offer our customers more local sports programming and this six-game package accomplishes that goal. We know the Indians have a large loyal fan base that is going to enjoy watching these games on Comcast."

Comcast Local is a 24-hour regional sports network which serves approximately 1.3 million cable customers throughout the Midwest. Launched in 2004, the network is owned and operated by Comcast Corporation and provides a comprehensive mix of live sports programming, sports news and in-depth sports analysis. The network is available to over 300,000 Comcast customers in Indiana.
