Jose Canseco to go up against seven Valley finalists in Home Run Derby at Chukchansi Park
FRESNO, Calif. - The Jose Canseco Home Run Challenge, presented by Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, is making a stop in Downtown Fresno. On Tuesday, August 12th, seven finalists will go up against Jose Canseco in Home Run Derby prior to the 7:05 p.m. game between the Fresno Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Redhawks at Chukchansi Park. Gates will open to the general public at 5:30 p.m., with the Home Run Derby beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Hopefuls interested in becoming a finalist must attend the open tryout on Sunday, July 20th at Chukchansi Park. At the tryout, each hopeful will receive 10 home run derby swings, choosing either softball or baseball, or both. The hopefuls who finish in the top three in the softball and baseball divisions will be selected to compete against Jose Canseco on August 12th. The seventh finalist will be determined by an online auction bid that will go live on Monday, July 21st on www.FresnoGrizzlies.com.
Hopefuls are required to bring their own bat(s) to the open tryout, while the Fresno Grizzlies will provide softballs and baseballs. Pitchers will be on hand, but hopefuls can opt to bring their own. Hopefuls can enter Chukchansi Park for the open tryout beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 20th through the Gate 2 entrance off H Street.
