Inland Empire Scores Final Thirteen Runs of Game

May 27, 2006

After the High Desert Mavericks tied the game at seven in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Inland Empire 66ers scored the final thirteen runs of the game to win 20-7. By recording 27 hits in the contest, Inland Empire moved to 29-19 while High Desert dropped to 23-25.

Every single 66er recorded at least two hits as the team scored twenty runs for the first time since August 1996, when they were known as the San Bernardino Stampede. Thomas Hubbard led the way with a 5-6 night with five RBIs and was one of four Sixers to connect on a homerun along with Mike Wilson, Omar Falcon and Josh Womack. All homeruns were struck against High Desert starting pitcher Luis Cota (1-6), who allowed nine runs on ten hits in 4.1 innings of work. The High Desert bullpen fared no better as Nate Moore, Adam Rowe and Brandon Weeden combined to allow eleven runs in 4.2 innings of work. Inland Empire bat at a .551 average (27-49) in the lopsided victory.

Down 7-2 entering the fourth, High Desert bat around in scoring five runs to tie the game at seven. Mike Stodolka lifted an opposite field homerun to left to join Rusty Brown as Maverick batters with homeruns. Despite the great resolve the Mavs exhibited, it all went for naught as Inland Empire scored two runs in the fifth, three in the seventh, eight in the fifth and three more times in the ninth to win the game running away.

High Desert continues their homestand Saturday night as lefthander John Gragg III takes the hill against 66er righthander Aaron Jensen. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a High Desert Mavericks baseball card set prepared by the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District! As always, the game can be heard on AM 960 in the Victor Valley as well as www.hdmavs.com from computer sets worldwide.
