Frisco Forces Split
FRISCO - Jerad Eickhoff tossed seven innings of two-run ball Saturday night as the RoughRiders rebounded with a 6-2 victory over Corpus Christi in the series finale at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Frisco (11-10, 50-40) pounced on Brady Rodgers for two runs in the first. Patrick Cantwell sent a ground ball down the left-field line for a one-out double. Rehabbing Texas Ranger Jim Adduci then drove a 1-1 pitch into right field, plating Cantwell. Adduci took second on the throw. With two away, Odubel Herrera rolled a grounder to shortstop, but the ball was mishandled by Carlos Perdomo. In his haste to recover, Perdomo threw wildly to first, enabling Adduci to score.
The Hooks (12-10, 46-46) answered in the second with a two out rally. Telvin Nash knocked a base hit into right and Perdomo followed by coaxing a walk from Eickhoff - his lone free pass of the night. Rene Garcia, on a 1-2 pitch, snuck a single thru the left side, scoring Nash from second base.
Leading 2-1, Frisco tacked on three more tallies in the fourth. Trever Adams opened with a single and, one out later, back-to-back doubles by Geovany Soto and Chris Grayson put the Riders up 4-1. Grayson came home on a base hit to left by Hanser Alberto, handing the home team a four-run cushion.
Rodgers (4-10) was able to escape a bases-loaded jam in the fifth before handing the ball to Ruben Alaniz.
With two away in the seventh, Nash belted a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left field for his 12th home run of the season. The solo blast snapped a run of 15 in a row retired by Eickhoff.
Eickhoff (7-6) allowed three hits and fanned seven, throwing 68 of 102 pitches for strikes.
Alaniz worked around two walks and a base hit to complete two scoreless innings of relief.
Travis Ballew pitched the eighth and a lead-off single by Alberto developed into an insurance run for the Riders.
Corpus Christi returns to Whataburger Field Sunday for the first of four against Midland. The tandem of Chris Devenski (1-0, 2.25) and Colton Cain (0-0, 4.58) is slated to pitch for the Hooks. The Hounds, who have won nine consecutive games, counter with Shawn Haviland (5-5, 3.24). First pitch 6:10.
